How to Organize Your Diaper Bag
It’s every mom’s struggle. Your baby is wailing, your hands are full, and you’re desperately trying to dig through your diaper bag. You know [insert legitimately any baby item] is in here. You just packed it just before you left the house! You’re prepared for anything, and yet you can’t seem to find what you need.
Fortunately, our diaper bag organization system can help you locate diapers, wipes, swaddle blankets, pacifiers, teethers, toys, headbands, or anything else you need instantly. Let’s get started.
- Get a bag with lots of pockets
Having a bag with the right features is essential. Our Vanilla Latte Itzy Mini Diaper Bag Backpack has a large pouch, pockets on the front, and two slots on the side. This makes it easier to stay organized, so the contents of your bag aren’t sliding around constantly and getting mixed up.
- Purchase sample sizes and duplicates of your favorite products
Who wants to pack the diaper bag every single time they go somewhere? Being able to leave your wipes, pacifiers, headbands, swaddle blankets in the diaper bag for travel makes it so much easier to get up and go. Of course, you’ll need these for around the house too, so buy multiple of everything. The convenience ultimately outweighs the cost. Furthermore, you can save space in your diaper bag by opting for travel sizes (i.e. diaper cream, lotion, wipes, etc.).
- Pack your diaper bag effectively
A diaper bag must be packed correctly in order to be effective. If your diaper bag isn’t newly purchased, make sure it’s entirely empty and wiped out before you begin.
Here’s a checklist for what you’ll need in your bag:
- A portable changing pad
- Diaper rash ointment
- Small bottle of hand sanitizer
- Change of clothes for baby
- Baby swaddle and burp cloth
- Plastic bags to wrap up dirty diapers or hold wet clothes
- Pacifiers and teethers
- Bottles/sippy cups (if necessary)
- Mommy’s essentials
Pack similar items together (ex: diapers, wipes, diaper cream, wet bags) and put items in compartments, so you’ll remember where they are. For example, you can roll up a baby swaddle inside a compartment and tuck it away. This makes it easy to grab when you need it.
After you’ve had your diaper bag organized for a few days, evaluate what’s working and what’s not working. If the “system” you created isn’t helping, get rid of it! Try again and reorganize based on what you’ve learned. Only you know what’s ultimately going to work for you, mama!
A diaper bag is an extension of your nursey, and it allows you to get out of the house and feel independent. If you feel your diaper bag is holding you back, it’s time to invest in one that helps you instead of hinders you.
